Gangs of Wasseypur 2 Movie Review - 3 Stars
Gangs of Wasseypur 2 Movie Review
Gangs of Wasseypur 2 Movie Review
If Gangs of Wasseypur part 1 was a masterpiece, its second and final part is a work of cinematic brilliance by Anurag Kashyap. A hard hitting revenge drama, fed by a superb script and extremely powerful character driven performances, Gangs of Wasseypur 2, with gothic and gruesome blood sequences, is in a league of its own.
Gangs of Wasseypur 2 keeps you firmly engrossed right throughout the movie with its slicker pace and edge of the seat tension. The Wasseypur story is carried forward by the sons of Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee) who all have their own different approach to life, albeit all too violent and bloody. While Faizal (Nawazuddin Siddiqui ) wants to avenge the death of his father at the hands of Ramadhar Singh, he has a major weakness for money that often shifts his attention from Ramadhar Singh and his dirty politics. On the other hand, his other brother Perpendicular is famous for his notoriety in Wasseypur, while his half brother Definite dreams of replacing him someday and take over the reins of Wasseypur in his hands. And the lives of these blood thirsty revenge driven characters are interlocked by a series of interwoven plots that lead to a blood fest on the streets of Wasseypur. And it keeps getting bloodier, murkier and darker as the movie progresses.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui portrays the character of the dreaded gangster Faizal Khan with such natural fervor that you might be tempted to mistake him for a real Wasseypur gangster. His speech, his mannerisms, his behavior and above all his personality are all in perfect sync with the attributes of a real small town gangster. And his addiction to drugs in the movie is expressed solely through his eyes, more than the puffs that he keeps guzzling in the air throughout the movie.
A special mention for the characters of Definite and Perpendicular in the movie. Perpendicular, though on the wrong side of the law, is a lovable character purely because of his hilarious histrionics while committing petty crimes. And to go with it is his stammering.
Definite, played by Zeeshan Quadri, comes across as a highly motivated, brainwashed teenager whose bloody intentions and killer attitude will leave you despising him forever.
The brutal portrayal of killing sequences in the movie is perhaps the first of its kind in Hindi Cinema. You're menacingly left dumbfounded. And just when you think, you have seen it all, there is a climax waiting for you that will leave you speechless.
Gangs of Wasseypur 2 packs in the punches like never before. It takes the dark revenge drama of the first part a notch higher, a feat that speaks volumes about Anurag Kashyap and his brilliance. Hats off to the man and more power to him. May his tribe increase!!
